Russia Accuses Ukraine of Crimea Train Attack, Says It Hurts Peace Efforts

(MENAFN) Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a drone strike on a passenger train in Crimea, an incident Moscow says has further complicated efforts to reach a peace settlement in the ongoing war.

According to reports, Russian authorities claimed the attack resulted in one death and one injury.

The allegations relate to Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, though Ukraine has not issued any comment on the accusation, and the claims have not been independently verified due to the continuing conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a briefing that Russia remains open to a negotiated settlement, while accusing Ukraine of deliberately obstructing progress toward peace.

“Ukraine is doing everything to slow down this process,” he said.

Peskov also reacted to a joint statement by Britain, France, and Germany that outlined conditions for a potential peace framework, saying it was difficult to see how talks with Kyiv could proceed under current conditions.

He referred to remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where Putin criticized what Moscow describes as Ukrainian strikes on civilian infrastructure.

Additionally, Peskov criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accusing them of inconsistency for advocating peace while continuing to support Ukraine’s military capabilities.
