Russia-US negotiations continue on third day

(MENAFN) Discussions between a Russian delegation led by President Vladimir Putin’s aide Kirill Dmitriev and representatives of the Trump administration entered a third day on Sunday. Dmitriev, who heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said the meetings have focused on clearly communicating Moscow’s positions and concerns to US officials.

In a video address posted on Telegram, Dmitriev stressed that “only constructive, respectful dialogue will bear fruit” and added that “any attempts to pressure Russia are simply pointless.”

He maintained that the Ukraine conflict can only be resolved by addressing its root causes.

The Russian delegation reportedly provided updates on a range of issues, including the state of the economy and developments along the frontline in Ukraine. Dmitriev claimed that some parties have attempted to conceal or distort information from US leadership. Highlighting Russia’s economic situation, he noted that the ruble has strengthened about 40% against the US dollar this year, calling it “the most successful currency this year.”

On military developments, Dmitriev briefed US officials on the encirclement of Ukrainian forces near Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), with roughly 5,000 and 5,500 troops trapped in the respective areas. He also shared details on the recent testing of the new nuclear-powered Burevestnik missile, emphasizing the importance of communicating these updates directly to key US officials.

The Russian delegation’s visit follows US President Donald Trump’s cancellation of a planned summit with Putin in Budapest, citing doubts over whether progress could be achieved.

Trump had also called for an immediate halt to fighting along the current front lines of the Ukraine conflict. Both leaders, however, have left open the possibility of holding the summit at a later date.
