Orban compares EU’s Kallas to Napoleon, Hitler over Russia policy
“Then there are the old European traditions... well, Russia has already been attacked before, right? Even Napoleon and Hitler didn’t succeed – now Kaja Kallas will, obviously,” Orban said, referencing Kallas’s hardline stance on Russia.
Orban warned against provoking Russia, noting the country’s historical memory of past conflicts. He pointed to artworks in Moscow and St. Petersburg taken from across Europe, including Hungary, during earlier wars as reminders of the cost of confronting Russia.
Kallas has been a vocal advocate for using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, drawing criticism from leaders like Orban. Internal EU divisions prevented agreement on this measure, leading instead to a €90 billion ($105 billion) loan to Ukraine for 2026-27, a plan Hungary opted out of.
