Russia Kicks Off Flight Testing of New Aircraft Engine

(MENAFN) Russia has launched flight testing of a newly developed aircraft engine, designated "Product 177", mounted on its fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet, according to an announcement Monday from state-owned aerospace conglomerate Rostec on its Telegram channel.

“The first test flight was carried out as planned and in full compliance with the assigned flight mission,” the company said.

The "Product 177" engine is rated to deliver a maximum afterburner thrust of 16,000 kilogram-force. It is also designed to lower fuel consumption across all operational modes while offering an extended service lifespan compared with earlier powerplants.

The Su-57 is a multirole combat aircraft intended to perform a broad spectrum of missions, ranging from air superiority operations to ground and maritime strike roles.
