Russia Plans to Adopt Tougher Stance in Ukraine Talks
“The diplomatic consequences of the attack would be a hardening of Russia's negotiating position,” Peskov told reporters.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the allegation on Monday, calling it “another lie from the Russian Federation.”
According to Peskov, the alleged Ukrainian operation was intended to disrupt the negotiation process aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, from which Russia is not withdrawing.
Despite the tension, Russia intends to maintain dialogue, primarily with the United States, the spokesman added.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday that Kiev conducted an overnight strike using 91 long-range drones targeting the presidential residence in Novgorod. “All drones were shot down and no reports of casualties or damage were received,” he said.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Sunday, stating that the two sides are “getting a lot closer, maybe very close” to a peace deal to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
On the Russian side, President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump by phone to discuss progress in the latest U.S.-Ukraine negotiations, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said Monday.
