Kosovo FM Says Serbia’s Actions Reflect Russia’s Regional Agenda

(MENAFN) Kosovo's top diplomat issued a stark warning Monday that Belgrade's recent military buildup signals Moscow's broader destabilization strategy for the Balkans, dismissing claims of external threats to Serbia as unfounded.

Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla-Schwarz drew a direct parallel between Serbian policy maneuvers and Russian regional objectives, arguing that Belgrade's leadership prioritizes expansionist ambitions over European integration.

"History has taught us that to understand Russia's intentions in our region, one should watch Serbia's actions. Serbia doesn't have a foreign policy different from Moscow's," Gervalla-Schwarz said in a post on the US social media platform X.

The minister referenced weekend statements from Serbia's president announcing force expansion plans, interpreting the declaration as coordination with Moscow.

"Yesterday, Serbia's president declared the world order dead and said they would double the army. The message is clearly both for Russia and from Russia," she stated.

Gervalla-Schwarz dismissed Serbian narratives about security concerns, asserting "the fact is, no one is threatening Serbia."

The actual danger, she contended, stems from Belgrade's governing approach, which abandons democratic European pathways in favor of regional domination strategies.

According to her, the threat "lies in its leadership, which, instead of building a normal European state focused on EU reforms and democracy, dreams of a regional empire — a Russian mindset in miniature."

Invoking historical precedent, the minister cautioned about Serbia's potential to trigger wider instability.

"It wouldn't be the first time Serbia sets fire to Europe," she warned.
