New Round of Ukraine-Russia Talks Expected Soon

(MENAFN) A new round of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may be days away, with talks potentially resuming as early as Feb. 26-27, according to Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine's presidential office, who made the announcement Monday.

Speaking to media, Budanov warned that the two warring nations are nearing a critical inflection point — one that will force both sides to decide whether to "continue this war or move toward peace."

In a separate development that could signal cautious momentum, Budanov told Ukrinform that a prisoner exchange may occur within days. "We are working on it. I hope that it will happen this week," he said, noting the number of exchanged prisoners will be "significant," higher than last time. He declined to elaborate further.

The announcement follows remarks last week by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed confidence that a fresh round of diplomatic engagement would occur before February's close. "We are counting on the next meeting, and it would be right to hold it in February. It is important that Europeans are present — France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and also Switzerland as the host country," he said.

The expected talks would mark a fourth round of negotiations since January. Previous sessions were held twice in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi and most recently in Geneva, Switzerland, on Feb. 17-18 — a process that has unfolded with unusual speed given the depth of the conflict.
