Russia Condemns Killing of Lebanese Journalist in Alleged Israeli Drone Strike
The embassy said the incident occurred on April 22 in the Tyre area, where Khalil, a journalist for the Lebanese newspaper *Al-Akhbar*, was killed and her colleague Zeinab Faraj was injured. It stated that “all circumstances of the incident indicate that the attack was targeted.”
It added that the killing of journalists is a violation of international law, stressing that media workers must not be targeted in conflict zones. The statement also described the incident as particularly serious given the current ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon.
According to reports, Khalil was killed while on assignment during an Israeli strike. Emergency responders said Faraj was wounded in the same incident and later taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery for head injuries and was also treated for a broken leg. She is reported to be in stable condition.
Lebanese state media said access to the wounded was initially blocked by Israeli forces, delaying assistance from the Red Cross and the Lebanese army.
The incident comes amid ongoing violence in southern Lebanon, where official figures report thousands of deaths and large-scale displacement since renewed hostilities earlier in the year. Despite a recently brokered ceasefire, reports indicate that attacks have continued in several areas.
